Democracy is good as a whole. On the other hand, some of the freedoms we have in America, such as freedom of religion, are being suffocated by minorities who want 'freedom FROM religion'. Frivilous lawsuits are getting more and more common for people to satisfy their selfish desires, not taking into account whether it is the right and just thing to do.

Like with all things, there are ups and downs.

that is a very broad question. as an American i can say that "government rules" have mostly helped the common people (stopping pollution, child labor, forced labor, corruption, etc.), but lately they are hurting the common people, such as the rule that the president is now a king, and all our money is going to his friends at halliburton. but as they say in the US, "follow the golden rule. the guy with the gold makes the rules"

Some government is necessary. Individuals in a country need protection. We all strive to hit a balance between necessity and government intervention.
