İ have HP Deskjet 5440. We can say that it's new because only a few months passed. My problem is that this printer cannot be connected to the computer! The printer is on, the USB cable is attached to my computer, there's ink, there's paper but it seems like there's no signal from the printer. My keyboard is attached to the same USB hub, i can type, but the printer doesn't work.
Do you think i must get a new USB cable or a new printer?
Please help, !
Thank you

The setup of the printer is already saved. İ have the original CD.
Using other USB ports didn't work either

Disconnect printer from hub
UNINSTALL any existing drivers for printer (delete them from printer folder)
Grab CD, and run installer
When it ASKS you to connect printer, connec to hub
It will now detect.

USB printers are odd, if they are moved to a new USB socket they try to reinstall on a new USB "virtual port" and the "manual" repair is easy if you know what you're doing, but a clean reinstall of drivers is easier.

Plug the printer into a USB socket on the computer and not an external hub. It should work now.

After you make it work this way you can try plugging it back into your hub.

Try installing the software from the CD you got with the printer. If you don't have a CD, then download the software here:

have you installed the driver and software package that comes with it?
what OS are you running? Vista does have issues with some devices that are attached.
