Yes, and we've created them, both socially, and with regards to the environment. Anarchy is but a stones throw away. All it would take is a couple of free falls in the markets, oil to go up a bit more, and it will hit the fan. Every society has a life cycle, Romans, Greeks, Ottoman, et al, and we're in the decline of ours... IMHO

Maybe these are the most troubling times WE'VE ever seen, but I am pretty sure that when the Black Death swept through Europe in the 14th century, it must have truly felt like the end of the world and the Last Judgement rolled into one. I bet the collapse of the Roman Empire and the loss of the security it provided felt pretty worrying too.

My point is that historically people have always felt that whatever troubles have beset them must be the worst and yet the world has continued. I think we can safely assume it will continue that way, event though what we'll be left with might rest on the roll of a dice.

That would be hard to prove. What about the times when diseases killed off half of all humanity, black plague, cholera and the like. What about all the different wars where entire cities were destroyed if they fought back such as with gangis kahn.

This is only a small example of what may be worse times. All people think the time they live in was the worst. The one thing we do have now to help us thing this way is Television. You see a full screen of a flooded out town but in actuality you don't see it is just the area next to the river because the non flooded part is not news.

Don't get manipulated by News people. We, in many ways live in the most amazing times ever. My grandmother used horse carts to get around as a young lady. She saw us go to the moon. I started a business in the late 70's. If I had a cell phone and fax machine and a computer and the internet back them I would have been rich and hugely successful. Instead I had to work hard to just get by.

Think about this. In order for me to make a flier that was more than just a typed letter, I had to go to a typesetter and have them lay out the design and I had to pay an artist to draw the art and pay huge bucks to get it printed. I had to pay an answering service to get my phone calls.

We live in good times here in the US. Parts of the world really suck but overall we are not in the worst times...but.... it will get worse.

Read the bible. Read as much poetry as you can stomach from as many time periods of human history as you can. People always think that we're screwed as a species, irregardless of what time period they live in. People have been swearing up and down that the period in which they live is probably the most degenerate, decadent collection of humans in all of human history. The world hasn't ended yet. We haven't gotten any more troubled than we've ever been. Volcanos erupt, storms devastate cities, earthquakes kill a lot of innocent people, tsunamis ravage anything with a coast, people start wars. It has always happened, it will continue happening. Humanity has existed for something along the lines of 80,000 to 150,000 years. Our known history begins about ten thousand years ago. Meh. It's troubling, but it ain't the most troubling. In fact, we, as a species, are reacting to the things we are doing to ourselves and trying to find solutions to them at a rate henceforth never experienced in all of recorded history.

I think there is some really scary things going on with our weather, and I believe scientists are down playing the effects of greenhouse gasses because it's too late to stop it.

I also believe this is the age of miracles, and if we just have the will and the love, we can fix the world.

We haven't seen the meaning of trouble yet. The worst is still to come.

I think human life in general never was more tolerable, and never shall be, just as long as the oil lasts.
Any of your troubles exists because you are further attemted to them than to your experience of joys.

World War II and the use of atomic bombs was a lot more troubling.

Nope.

I think the World Wars were a bit trickier. In fact, the Black Plague time was pretty bad.

No, all in all, I think we live in a pretty good time.

I disagree! It has been a lot worse in the past. As long as technology improves, our lives will improve. There will always be war and illness etc, but as long as we keep technology going, we can overcome these things. :-) Be happy!
