It's odd, but the way books have usually changed me was to make me think something more or less superficial such as "I wish I could write like him" or "I wish I could have lived back then just to see what it was like". No book ever made me decide where to live or what to do for a living or what to believe in. I am somewhat embarrassed by that, in the context of this section and this question. But no, no book has influenced me so.

Suite Francaise: Irene Nemirovsky
Bird Song: Sebastian Faulks
The Pact: Jodi Picoult
Kite Runner

All very powerful novels with very serious subjects. The Authors just pull you into the story, you cant be the same after experiencing the hardships others have lived through

To Kill a Mockingbird made me appreciate literature so much more. I genuinely think it's the most perfect book ever written.

I honestly have to say The Gunslinger by Stephen King, it's what cemented in my head that I was going to be a writer.

yep... that would be the omen. dunno who wrote it. that book pushed me off the edge.

when i was about 14, i had been reading nothing but horror stories for the past year...i read everything from r.l.stine to true singapore ghost stories to factual-ish pieces about all sorts of demons and supernatural stuff. i especially went for biblical stuff...it is the scariest of the lot.

after i read the omen, however, i could not sleep...for 2 weeks. it was like everything i had ever read before, every little bit of knowledge of supernatural stuff, was suddenly making its presence felt. i became scared of every shadow, every sound that had no apparent source.

to this day, i cannot watch horror movies.
