I was brought up on Superstitions. There are hundreds and hundreds. Here are some that I am used to:

Saying Good Morning Your Majestey and saluting to a Magpie.

Throwing Salt over your shoulder when you have spilt some. {My nan did that in a restaurant and a waiter was standing behind her and she chucked salt in his eyes!. He was not very pleased}

Putting new shoes on table.

Crossing Knives.

Crossing the Stairs.

AMBULANCE Seeing an ambulance and then you have to say: Cross My Fingers, Cross my Toes, I don't want to go in one of those!

ACORN ~ An acorn should be carried to bring luck and ensure a long life. An acorn at the window will keep lightning out

AMBER ~ Amber beads, worn as a necklace, can protect against illness or cure colds.

Apples: Think of five or six names of boys or girls you might marry, As you twist the stem of an apple, recite the names until the stem comes off. You will marry the person whose name you were saying when the stem fell off.

An apple a day Keeps the doctor away.

If you cut an apple in half and count how many seeds are inside, you will also know how many children you will have.

BELLS ~ The sound of bells drives away demons because they're afraid of the loud noise. When a bell rings, a new angel has received his wings.

BROOM ~ Do not lean a broom against a bed. The evil spirits in the broom will cast a spell on the bed. If you sweep trash out the door after dark, it will bring a stranger to visit. If someone is sweeping the floor and sweeps over your feet, you'll never get married. Never take a broom along when you move. Throw it out and buy a new one. To prevent an unwelcome guest from returning, sweep out the room they stayed in immediately after they leave.

CAT ~ If a black cat walks towards you, it brings good fortune, but if it walks away, it takes the good luck with it. A cat onboard a ship is considered to bring luck.

CRACK ~ Don't step on a crack on a sidewalk or walkway.
Step on a crack, break your mother's back.

EARS ~ If your right ear itches, someone is speaking well of you. If your left ear itches, someone is speaking ill of you.
Left for love and right for spite:
Left or right, good at night.

EYELASH ~ If an eyelash falls out, put it on the back of the hand, make a wish and throw it over your shoulder. If it flies off the hand the wish will be granted.

MIRROR ~ To break a mirror means 7 years bad luck. It is unlucky to see your face in a mirror by candlelight. A mirror should be covered during a thunderstorm because it attracts lightning. If a mirror in the house falls and breaks by itself, someone in the house will die soon.

BIRD ~ A bird in the house is a sign of a death. If a robin flies into a room through a window, death will shortly follow.

Ladders ~ Don't walk under them.

There are loads more. But coming from an Irish family, you either believe or you don't believe. Blessed Be X

I do believe it is a theatrical superstition to say: 'break a leg', not to mention 'THE Play' -
Sneezes: once a wish, twice a kiss, three times a letter, if you sneeze once again you will have something better!

Right hand itches, rub on wood - sure to come good

and supposedly I understand that the sore or burning ears too are superstitious because - Left for Love and Right for Spite - both together, the gossip's alright!

Well, there you go!!! :O) lol

lol I have a book on superstitions, its called " The penguin Guide to the superstitions of Britain and Ireland.

here's a few
Ambulance (I remember this as a child) If you saw an ambulance you hold you collar until you see a 4 legged animal, and then say
Touch collar
Never swallow
Never get the fever
Touch you nose
Touch your toes
Never go in one of those.

Friday:
If you have a good dream on a Friday be sure to tell someone on Saturday:
Friday's dream on Saturday told
Is sure to come true, be it never so old.

Another:
if a maiden sits before her looking glass in her bedroom, at midnight on St Mark's Eve, with a candle in a far corner of the room, giving only a dim light, and repeats these lines:
Come lover, come lad
And make my heart glad
For husband I'll have you
For good or for bad.
(She will presently see the shadow of her future husband appear in the glass)

I have 2 that haven't been mentioned. Perhaps, they're native to America.

When walking with someone, and then separated by an obstruction, when you rejoin, you must say 'bread and butter'. lol. Why? I have no idea.

If your nose itches, you are going to have a fight that day.
