That is save the "Dream Wedding" money and put it in a college fund for the kids. That is money you will never get back.

Here here! I agree whole-heartedly. Companies that cater for weddings (such as florists, cake decorators, wedding dress makers) prey on people who are sensitive about their wedding and charge stupid prices for simple things and you just don't get any value for money. And people are so phased by the need to have a huge impressive wedding that they lose sight of what its really all about and hand over their money like its nothing. I mean, £2000+ for a wedding dress is just stupid, imagine what else you could have with that money, and after-all, you only wear the dress for 1 day!

Well, our parents are paying for our wedding and that's their money to choose to spend it how they like. Even if the divorce rate were lower, a wedding is just one day, why waste the money?

We're not going to be having kids, but that money could go to traveling or something fun. Of course, without children, we'll save tons of money to do things we enjoy! With global population the way it is, why waste money having children? Why waste your life hoping for a better future (children) when you can live your life and actually do something useful instead? Having children doesn't fix current problems.

Answer: some people enjoy the strangest things despite the consequences ie. children and weddings.

I bet my mother wishes she had saved the $$ she spent on my first wedding. I just wanted to go to the jp and have a little cookout. But she insisted on the dress, flowers, decor, etc. Though it was still small, she could have saved the $$ for my daughter. But I suppose you've gotta do it at least once.

This is true about the money, and you should see what it cost for a divorce!!! I got married by the J.P. in the court house for $10.00. yes that was ten dollars back in 1974. The divorce after 31 years of marriage cost me $30,000.

You haven't even scratched the surface. It's the divorce lawyer money where you will save big. Buy a second home (a mansion) with that.

Yes! But most people don't do this. They blow thousands on a 4 hour party for people who are just there to get fed and drink.
