Because freedom involves putting down tyrants, and if you don't spend the time, money and energy to defend your freedom, you don't have it long. That's why, for example, we need to provide economic support to the public interest law firms that take on Constitutional cases and argue them all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary. That's why we need to support the Department of DEFENSE, while resisting efforts to turn it to aggression. And why, at whatever the cost, we must speak up for liberty and justice for all.

This makes me think about our history and the way early Americans had to fight for freedom. The Founding Fathers realized that freedom would be a gamble when they signed away their lives to the Declaration. They knew that the cost would also mean that they would probably not see it, if they die and the Revolutionary War was succssful. They knew, too, that it would cost them their lives and give them no freedom in return. The voices of freedom spread from Boston to other cities and eventually to other colonies. The colonists were impressed with the Bostonians' ability to defy the Redcoats and fight for freedom in the face of death (Boston Massacre - 6 killed). Freedom isn't really free. You have to shed alot of blood and hardwork to get it. We should never take freedom for granted. That is why each of us has a responsibility in preseving freedom with each passing generation. Because you are right freedom does not exist in a document (Constitution), it has always existed in the human spirit
