Although there has always been a fierce debate as to who invented TV (UK, US, Japan, Russia, France, Germany etc) - it was in fact John Logie Baird, without a doubt, who made the worlds first television broadcast in London's Royal Institute in 1926. In the demonstration, he proved it was possible to broadcast moving images - so I guess that counts as the first actual broadcast.

Jan. 13, 1928. Alexanderson demonstrates the GE system and announces the beginning of television broadcasting. The pictures were received on sets with 1.5 square inch screens in the homes of Alexanderson and two board members in Schenectady.
