My husband seems to think that two middle names sound dumb. I want my last name as a second middle name and since he is against hypenating my last name and his last name together, I thought I would use my last name as a second middle name to compromise. I think that fair. What do you think. I kept my last name and am not using his. The name would be Ava Christian Besse Baker. I think it sounds good.

First, I love Ava Christian. What a lovely name.

Second, while I'm not a huge fan of two middle names just for heck of it, you've got a good reason. If he's veto'd a hyphenated surname, then why not tuck it in there as a second middle name?

It's a great compromise, and I think I'd stick to my guns and insist. :)

I think it sounds awesome! Two middle names actually sound more elegant, at least to me. And I love that her second middle name will be your maiden name - and the fact that it's Besse, which sounds a lot like the given names Bess or Bessie (sorry, I don't know if I should pronounce the -e on the end of that!) it also just sounds like a normal name. Tell your husband to shove it (jk lol), since he's got to compromise somewhere and if he won't let you hyphenate the last name, then you have to get the second middle name. After all, YOU'RE the woman actually giving birth here!

PS I love the name Ava Christian! It sounds gorgeous, and it's even better as Ava Christian Besse Baker!

Good luck and congrats!

Sounds good to me as well. I gave my son 2 middle names.
I named him Julian Hunter Lee (Last name here)
People would say gosh his name is long but i don't care what people say i love his name. There is not one other person i know living where we do that has his name (Julian)
When it came to his middle names i loved the name Hunter and the name Lee is my middle name, my husband's middle name and also both our fathers plus my sister all have the middle name Lee so i just had to put that in it.
I am glad i named him what i did.

I think you should pick a name that you like because after all you will be the one laying there hurting and giving birth. It is only your right to get to name him/her.
If i would have left it up to my husband do you know what he wanted to name our son? Ozzy Lee (Last name here) Yep after Ozzy Osbourne.

There are so many people now with two middle names. It is not bad but it might would be if you gave a kid like 4 or 5 middle names and i am telling you i know people that have done that and that is just wrong.
Good luck

I don't like 2 middle names. It doesn't sound dumb but I see no point in it. A child should have only 1 first name and 1 middle name. Good luck and congrats!

I don't think that having two middle names sounds dumb - especially the way your name would turn out. It gives a little bit of leniency, as you can sometimes pick which middle name to use when introducing yourself or registering yourself online. I've actually envied people with multiple middle names. That's a very nice name, and I think that you should go with the two middle names.

I have two middle names, and it actually comes up very rarely that I even mention both my middle names. Officially it only matters when you get a drivers license or social security card. You never really introduce yourself and give your middle names, I certainly don't. It only comes up as a bit of trivia once in a while. There are actually very few people who know what my middle names are, and it's only because I choose to share it with a few people.

At any rate I believe it adds depth of character, especially if it has significant meaning (mine was from a minute man ancestor in the revolutionary war). If your kid thinks it sounds stupid, guess what, it won't come up any more often then she actually brings it up. But too me the name sounds fine, it's probably just that your husband is use to thinking that someone has to have only one middle name.

I don't think it sounds dumb. But it is AWFUL impractical. Most gov't forms have a spot for one middle name. Hyphenated names also suck for this reason. It may look trendy but it just fails in real life. Just stick to Ava Christian Baxter. People will know she's yr daughter whether yr name is in there or not.

I'm living in the Philippines and I'm married to a Filipino. In this culture every baby's middle name is the mother's maiden name and many people still give a "decorative" middle name... I think I will follow this custom too. In some cases I think it sounds better if the names are kept short since there are so many.

Its fair considering you are not using his surname for yourself so baby should get a piece of both of you! Although I'm assuming its a girl and in that case I think 'Christian' is a bit weird since its a boy name. (I'm also asuming your last name is besse and his is baker)

Overall the 4 names thing sounds fine but maybe think about changing Christian to a more feminine name.

One of my friends has 2 middle names and she's proud of it and uses them all of the time. I have another friend from South America and she has about 4 middle names. There is nothing weird or stupid about having 2 middle names. Many cultures use middle names as a way of honoring family. They pass on the surnames of both sides of the family. If it's important to you, stick to your guns and use your surname as well as your husband's.
