My husband and 3 children are thinking of emmigrating to the USA from the UK, but we cannot decide where about we might consider living. America is so diverse.
We have been looking at Manchester NH because it has no state income tax or sales tax. that makes it attractive.
I do not like it too hot but I like a good mixture of weather and would like to have snow in winter.
My husband and I are big American Football fans (Green Bay and Buffalo) and we have looked at orchard Park NY and around the Milwaukee area.
The west coast might be a little far from my family in the UK but if it was really nice i might consider it....any ideas?

If you are looking for something similar to the UK then NH is a good choice. Bill Bryson, an American Travel Author, lived in England for 20 years. Then moved his family to NH. You may want to check out his book (find it on Amazon) called "I'm a stranger here myself". It talks about the difficulties of moving from the UK to NH, and the challenges, and the advantages. It's a humor book, but it does give you some perspective.

But Oregon and Washington (on the west coast) offer a lot of options. Washington has professional football, baseball and basketball. Oregon has professional basketball. And the weather in Portland and Seattle is pretty similar to what you experience in the UK. I have a friend from Dover, and she moved here specifically for the similarity in the weather.

California's the best!! California's "Central Valley" (from Red Bluff to Bakersfield) gets very hot in the summer. Southern California is more temperant, tropical-like (sort of) and the B*ay Area (San Jose/San Francisco) are pretty cool and have a lot of morning fog.

Washington and Oregon are beautiful and their weather is cool and rainy, more like UK's weather. You'd like that.

Arizona is a neat state. I visited Phoenix once and I love the Southwest, the deserts and Native American influence, and the heat. You don't like intense heat, so forget Arizona.

Seriously consider Washington/Oregon. There's already an entire ocean separating you from the UK and your new American home, so what's another 3,000 miles! (that's how far the West Coast is from the East Coast...the United States is 3,000 miles wide.)

P.S. My best friend's mother is from the UK (she's been here for 30 years, though) and hates the hot weather too (she lived here in Sacramento, California). She moved up to Seattle, Washington, 12 years ago and finally stopped complaining! She likes it there. It feels more like England to her. The rain and the flowers, I guess. It's more "foresty" and "raw nature-like" up there, compared to central California.
