who brought the water hyacinth to australia?

can somone plz help me im doing a project on that and i cant find the answer anywhere. plz help

They originated in South Africa but the name of the dummy that imported them was probably a foolhardy plant collector. RScott

I am sorry I can't help much with Australia but here in the USA they were imported as an ornamental for garden ponds. As you are aware they quickly become a problem when they get out in the wild.
