I had a Chevy Malibu, and it actually held 3 car seats. With my two in there, there was enough room to comfortably seat an adult in the back as well. We had a rear facing and a front facing, then two front facing.

Just like seanf70 i also have a ford wagon and can fit three seats across the back but that is considered a large car and you want small. I would go for a Holden, Ford or Camry Sedan which are your mid size car as 2 kids, pram and groceries = the need for space! If you want slightly smaller again, a Toyota Corolla 4 Door is a good size for only 2 kids (you would need to upgrade if you had more as two seats will only just fit). I wouldn't go smaller than this at all until kids are out of seats and prams.
Best of luck car hunting

Funny you should ask, although I have a Mitsabishi Challenger which is a medium FWD and I can actually squeeze in between the two carseat and I am over weight a bit. I have the same, one rear facing and one front facing.
I have seen a Holden Berina with two carseats in the back, they fit but how big is your pram. You would be looking for a bigger car unfortunately but there a number out there. Such as any Holden station wagons, or Fords even Subarus.
I use to drive a big landcruiser but bullied my partner into buying a smaller vehicle and I love our challenger. Probably doesn't help much sorry, but you have to think about boot space as two children soon crowd up the car.

It shouldn't really be a problem. The forward facing can go behind the driver allowing the driver's seat its full range of mobility. The rear-facing will go behind he passenger seat which will have to stay in one position. The more leg room the passenger has the better, but some really small cars have a surprising amount of legroom even compared to large sedans.
Personally I have a Neon, its ok but not great.

I would suggest getting a 4 door sedan. Because it is so hard getting a car seat that is rear facing out of a two door. I did that with an Escort GT. I had a baby 5 1/2 months ago, and a week before she was born we bought a Ford Freestar. I love the thing, because I have sliding doors on both sides. My son that is 6 is still in a booster seat. So we have one side with a rear facing and him in his booster on the other side in captains chairs.

Hi Aaron
I would go with a mini van, Honda is one of the best it is economical and it is one of the safest.
As for just another engine, I am glad he likes his jag, but if it gets hit by one of those useless SUVs hard enough, only the jaws of life and time to spare will get his kids out, hopefully with time to spare.
If you live in the city then get a van if you live in the country go with an SUV doesn't have to be a big one, remember there are about 10 million SUVs out there, you don't want to be in a car and hit by one, the front bumper comes up just about the hieght of a car door, so think not about the cost but the safety of your family....Besides you can get a nice used vehicle cheap. Oh yea ask your wife what she want style or safety.
Good Luck ....cya....

I drive a Nissan Versa and chose it for my family b/c of the side airbags. It also got high reviews on all it's crash tests AND gets 42 miles to the gallon...
The back seat is very roomy, and the hatchback's trunk is huge enough to fit the stroller and bags in it with extra room.
Plus it's affordable.

I bought a used Jaguar XJ6 for my wife and kids, "used" they are NOT that expensive. Here is why I chose it over an SUV or other car.
1) It's "HEAVY", so any entanglement with an SUV (Stupid Useless Vehicle), and it will stay together.
2) 6 cylinder multi-valve engine (good power when needed, and good fuel economy)
3) IT's HEAVY !
4) seats fit easily in the back, lots of room for kids, seats, and grocery's
5) why pay big money for a "White trash" SUV, when you can cruise in comfort, class, and style ! more importantly is it's SAFE !
