Some high school programs are much more competitive than others. If your school has a high profile team, chances are most players have been playing most of their lives. That being said, it is high school and you should have the opportunity to try out. By all means, give it a shot. Learn the responsibilities of the position you wish to play and prepare yourself to try out next year. Get in shape. You should be able to run several miles before trying out. If you are in good shape, the coaches will notice and give you a chance.

If you are trying out for a skill position it will be harder such as quarterback or defensive back. If you have great speed or leg strength, becoming a receiver or kicker/punter is less demanding to learn. In any event, get in shape now.
