Absolutely!! Not only that, they should pay more percentage of their income. After 30% tax on $30,000, there are $21,000 to live on. After 50% tax on $5,000,000, there are $ 2,500,000. That's plenty to live on. This country desperately needs lots of money thanks to Dubya administrations' deeds (for details, see the link to the answer I posted to another question). If the rich is complaining, then I would like to see the middle class boycot servicing and supporting the rich.
I would like to see how they can survive without the middle class. Otherwise, we will have a condition in which Marx's brand of communism would thrive, and people would take the rich's money by force. The rich has beaten the system and got fatter and fatter for it. The perfection conditions for unrest and... revolution. If the rich is still okay with this scenario, heck, what do I care?
Either way, I am gonna get my fair share simply because I am a human being who should have every right to deserve what I work for, regardless how the system is rigged against me, or whatever other forces that restrict me because they exist outside of the system.

I have read your questions and you are not that bright. The rich do pay a lot more in taxes. The top 5% or wage earners pay 53% of the taxes. The top 10% pay almost 70% of taxes.
Increasing taxes lowers the amount of money the gov't collects. Kennedy, Reagen, and Bush all proved that when you cut taxes you increase the amount of taxes that comes into the gov't because you stimulate the economy.
If you tax people too much they will stop working as hard and make as much money and not create more jobs. Who wants to make money if it just gets taken away from them. They will cause you to loose your job because it is not too hard to figure out that you don't have the ability to earn a living unless a "rich" person gives you a job.
Fed sales tax makes a lot more sense!

If you want that, you must change whos running your country.
Republicans believe in supply side economics. So what they think is if you charge rich people and business lower taxes than they should normally pay, they will use that extra money to expand their business, hire more workers, offer more benefits, etc....
This is obviously not the case. Rich business owners, dont give a damn about employees. Most of the time, they wont offer you more benefits, or higher wages, they'll just pocket that extra cash.
So in US, rich people pay low taxes, poor people cant afford to pay taxes, and that leaves the middle class with the burden of the cost.

How is it fair to make the rich pay more for services that they're not as likely to use? Yes, they may be more able to pay than poor people, but that doesn't make it fair. They earned their money, they should be able to spend it as they wish.

Rich as such pay more then others in many direct or indirect ways. It's not the question of afford ability but a law which treats everybody equally.

The fair way would be to replace income tax with a Federal sales tax. That way people would not be "punished" for being successful, but would have to be accountable for extravagant purchases.

No, why punish the rich because they make more than us.
Since when did success become frowned upon?
