end world hunger?

Halloween is the 4th biggest holiday Americans spend on. A costume ranges around 20-30 dollars. Instead of buying one costume, to use for one year, why don't we all make our costume, and use that money to feed poor people that really need it?

I think little kids wouldn't mind after hearing that.

Shockingly, the super bowl is the THIRD....so guys, hand over that tv..LOL!

True. And if kids weren't fed sugar the moment they were born... [insert rant about world health and trillions of dollars saved on healthcare yadayada].

Well I end world hunger every year. Cause I don't give out candy. We don't have any kids in our neigborhood. And I also can't eat candy cause it's all processed on equipment with peanuts. I'm a big supporter of Charity, and always look forward to food drives and toy drives. Just yesterday I stuffed 50 mini stockings full of toys/candy/jewelry/stickers for the children at Demelza House Children's Hospice. Now all I need is to send them my yearly check. :)
There's lots of things people can cut out that will end world hunger. Smoking and Alchohol is two of them. My husband can feed an army with all the wine and beer he drinks.

Ending world hunger isn't as simple spending money on food and relief efforts. In many cases, the hunger is cause as much by political events as drought or poverty.

I'm not disagreeing with your position that money spend on Halloween could often be better spend in other places, but money alone won't solve the problem. Besides, if Americans weren't spending the money on Halloween, they would be spending it on new TVs and other consumer goods.

You might be on to something here... If we implemented a 10 dollar tax on everyone in America yearly, we would have 3 billion dollars annually, enough to buy enough DDT to entirely get rid of Malaria in Africa, allowing the Africans to be more productive to produce food for themselves, and be able to stop the fighting, because everyone woud be happier and not hungry, saving millions of deaths every year.

And I always make my own costume.

The Super Bowl is not a holiday - and neither is Halloween.

I'd settle for ending hunger here in the States. Then educate and end hunger elsewhere.

We make our costume but they STILL cost somewhere around $50....and SOME kids might understand but others will just follow through w/ the tricks.

Very good intention, but it's not enough. If I made my own custom I'd use the rest of the money to buy booze.

Would you give up your internet connection to feed someone for $40 a month?

It's really pitiful when you stop and realize how wasteful and gluttonous Americans have become.

We could save the world if we just cut back here and there....
