Hi all, I am just TTC (1st month) and have a couple of questions. I know that the first week of pregnancy is considered the 1st day of your cycle, which means by the time you really know you're pregnant you're usually three/four weeks pregnant? Is that correct?

Now I had no idea of this (just found it out on Yahoo answers! Thanks guys!!) and was drinking loads of coffee and had a couple of glasses of wine during my period. I don't know why but I just assumed I would stop drinking around ovulation. Is this a huge no-no? Can you do damage this way?

Yes the first day of your cycle is the first day of pregnancy even though it usually takes till day 14 (approx ovulation) to be 'with child' so when you miss a period you would be 4 weeks pregnant but techniquely only had an embryo for 2 weeks.

With the coffee/wine thing, don't worry about it! A cup or two of coffee during pregnancy or anytime will not do harm to your baby and a glass of wine every now and then is also considered safe. It is not a huge no-no at all and unless you abuse alcohol and coffee you won't do harm to the baby.

Hope that helps ease your mind. Enjoy a wine everynow and then, it will probably help you relax and therefore make a pregnancy more likely to happen!

Best of luck!

Stopping when you ovulate is fine. Even though they use the 1st day of your cycle, you are not really pregnant until fertilization. They only use that day because they typically don't 'know' when a woman ovulated, so that is what they go by for dating purposes.

Coffee and wine during your period will NOT HURT what is not there. Relax. You cannot be pregnant until AFTER OVULATION!

You're right, when you're three or four weeks pregnant you usually don't know it so you don't take care of what you're eating or drinking. I wouldn't worry. I've drunk coffee all the time I was pregnant and it was nothing wrong with my baby. I didn't smoke though. And I didn't drink alcohol, though I believe a glass of wine now and then won't do any harm.

doctors normally say that if you drink before you know you are pregnant there is a low chance of problems at that stage, as for caffeine, i drink about a cup a day through out my pregnancy and my kids (all four) have had no problems.
