I was just there last year, we took our adult kids and grandkid. We took the ferry from Vallejo and disembarked there. So much shopping, fine food shops, samples of food, restaurants, it's a huge somewhat outdoor market. I could have spent the day there, but we walked down to Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf. It's not a bad walk. I can't tell you how far it is from the Ferry building because we stopped and took pictures a lot. But it's an easy and scenic walk. I highly recommend starting at the Ferry Building and just do some walking and explore.

catch the Muni F streetcar in direction of the wharf. Get off at Jones and sea coast. walk over to North factor and Hyde highway (approximately 10-minute walk). catch the 30 to Broderick and Bay. Then that's a 5-minute walk to the Exploratorium. That takes approximately an hour.

Eat, shop, dine, wine, enjoy the coastal view. It's a beautiful building to visit and the stores are all pretty nice. Farmer's market too.

Across the street is the Embarcadero centre with some stores and fine shops.
