I know its a pretty common name, but is it a good baby name? It's not my baby, but im helping a friend...Does Olivier Leo (leo being the middle name) sound a little too much tho? is just plain Olivier better?

How would you pronounce Olivier? The original French pronounciation [o-lee-VYAY] differs quite a bit from the familiar Oliver and saying the name could be troublesome for the child, teachers, classmates and so on. It would also likely be misspelled as Oliver more than you can possible imagine. :) Just see how many people here thought it was Oliver. Besides if you have no French roots or connections to France choosing a typically French name is a tiny bit pretentious no matter how much you like the name. It is becoming more and more everyday though and your child would not stand out so much among the Michels, Emiles and so forth. :) Olivier is a lovely name, but sticking to Oliver would mean far less hassle. Note also that Oliver Leo flows much better than Olivier Leo. If you go for Olivier pick another middle name. If you want to take the French influence all the way I'd suggest Olivier Louis. Good luck!

Oliver or Olivier?

Oliver is popular, Olivier is the French version and less popular (at least in the the UK/USA!)

I like Olivier as its a bit more unusual than Oliver. Olivier Leo is lovely.

Are you saying Oliver or Olivier like LAwrence Olivier. Not that it matters since I'm not fond of either. But Oliver would be a tiny bit better i suppose.

I don't like Olivier for a boy - its too stage name/lead character in a soap opera sounding. I'd say go Oliver Leo or something like that. Half the kids I see signing up for school have some really weird names like Rally, Race, Chase,Cambell, etc. Kids struggle enough in life and kids tease a lot. Give the child a somewhat normal name. During roll call is not when a child wants the attention.

I think Oliver (without the second 'i') Leo sounds great. I love the name but don't like the version with the 'ier' ending as its too close to the feminine form, Olivia.

Oliver Leo sounds great, not Olivier Leo

Best of luck to your friend!

Olivier is the French variation of Oliver. It's really not THAT common. Most people won't pronounce it correctly (Oh-liv-ee-ay). If you are deliberately using the French version, Leo does not flow well with it.
