What I need most right is a list of where they are legal to own as pets

You will need an exotic pet license most places to own one. You will have to check your specific state for more info. They are a blast to have, but only if you can provide proper housing and care for them. They need a very large cage to be in while you're not home (NOT the kind of animal you can let roam while you're not around) and will more than likely need a cage with a decent lock on it since they're really good at figuring out simple latches that come on most cages. They are kind of like having a really furry little kid around, they can and do get into EVERYTHING when they are out exploring. They like toys, and treats and can be fun little pets if gotten young and socialized well. Be aware they do have large teeth and long claws which can hurt like hell if they get upset and decide to take it out on you. Some people that keep them as pets get the canines removed and have them declawed, I don't really agree with that, but I've seen many pet coati's that have had that done to make them easier to deal with once sexual maturity kicks in (usually by people who don't spend the time with them they should). If at all possible if you find a breeder, talk to them, ask how the parents are kept and handled, if possible go see them. They are a huge resposnibility and need lots of time and interaction to stay clam and happy while living in captivity. Having a large outdoor run type enclosure is great too for the nicer parts of the year, they love hunting for bugs and worms.

Coatimundi's are wildlife and not sold as pets. Keep searching online, I may not be completely up on all the info on them--they may be classed like skunks are, which can be bred in captivity and sold as pets that way. Raccoons are not, wild rabbits are not, mink can be, and foxes can be. It varies per species.

But mostly I'm pretty sure that a coatimundi isn't allowed as a pet, just is available to be housed and treated by wildlife rehabbers.
