Is this for a homework assignment?
Well, personally, I think cannabis should be legalized, just so that the police won't be wasting their time in finding people who own said weed.
Now, for the fun economic side of it:
1. If marijuana is legalized, that means anyone will be able to grow it.
Therefor, people would not need to go directly to a store, so there wouldn't be a buisness based on it and the economy would suffer. Our free market needs competition in order to work.
2. You wouldn't be able to tax the plants because everyone will be growing it, unless you ban the actual plants and just sell the finished product - just like cigarettes. That way, there can be a gain in the economy.
3. Most obvious: Imagine if everyone was stoned all the time...at least when operating heavy machinery.
But then again, it wouldn't be a bad thing, people would loosen up and stuff.
Later on, do your own homework.

Yes, the milder ones like marijuana and cocaine should definitely be legal. They are not remarkably lethal, especially if their production can be regulated for safety, quality and purity.
This would simultaneously deprive organized crime of much income, while freeing a lot of police resources and providing legitimate governments with additional tax income. Not just in the US, but all over the western hemisphere.
Government corruption would also be greatly reduced, in the poor latin American countries where drug money currently is a great detriment to the integrity of the supposedly legitimate authorities.

no, if they are accesible in a store they appear more socially acceptable and it is more likely that people will try/buy them. and for someone to say that cocaine isnt particularly lethal or harmful has obviously never known a cocaine addict. other than pot, most drugs are extremely addicting and become all consuming for the individual. if more people start using them, i would predict that many more families would be broken up, the unemployment rate would go up and people would just be down right sick. these drugs are not acceptable and for the government to legalize them only to make profit is rediculous.

Yes there is no logical reason for the ban.
They should only be restricted from children like alcohol and tobacco which are far more harmful in the long run than heroin .
