whats the order? is gpa first, then course load, then application, and then extracurricular?

oh and for the extracurricular part, what do colleges prefer? does it matter whether you're a dancer, sports player like softball or tennis player, or cheerleader? or does it not make a difference what kind of sport you do? thanks

Ok. This is basically it. The school wants diversity. OK? What does this entail?

Diversity means they don't want a sports player who is an idiot. They don't want a book nerd who is only that with no social skills, etc.

No extremes of any one thing.

Now, they first look at the grades for obvious reasons. If you can't pass high school, your not going to make it through college.

Next, most people are average. So if you play sports or do ANYTHING extra for your SCHOOL, then your ahead of the game. It shows them you have school spirit which they are a school and want people to root and represent THEM. Them being everyone. Faculty, the school morals, the students, etc.

Basically, get the best grades and get involved in the most activities as possible if you REALLY want to increase your worth.

That should about do it.

Also, don't stress over it so much. You may get the school you want, you may not. Don't bend yourself out of shape if you don't get the one you want. It happens to THOUSANDS of people. I don't see them dead yet.....

You'll live.... good luck....

Every school uses a different set of criteria. Certainly academics count more than extracurriculars, but some schools look first at class rank, others at GPA, others at the rigor of your college program. If you have ideas for which schools you might look at, you can go onto the College Board's website (www.collegeboard.com), and put each college into the College Matchmaker feature. On about the third page, it gives you the school's priorities.

As for what kinds of extracurriculars are preferred, the truth is that schools only consider how committed you were to your activities, not to what they actually are. If you spent a lot of time teaching Sunday school at your church, it counts as much as being a cheerleader at most schools. And certainly there are no differences among sports.

There is no particular order they just look at your application as a whole. Obviously they look at grades to see how competent you are in academics. They look at you courses to see if you challenge yourself. And yes they do look at extracurricular activities likk sports and community service. They look at your leadership skills, etc
Every school has a different criteria, but they are similar.
Dont stress about it just try to be a well rounded student keep up the good grades and get involve becuase schools dont want people that just study ans study or people that just liek to party. So get out there and get involve in sports, leadership, clubs, or whatever you want. But dont forget they look for community service

-Admissions procedures at selective universities examine out a mix of issues to no longer only comprise attempt rankings, extreme college GPA, yet club in communities (ie honor society or different extreme college golf equipment); and volunteerism and repair to community. -in case you do no longer volunteer and seeking to get right into a selective college, you certainly choose to initiate volunteering contained domestically. -And as a part word, some universities and faculties at the instant are employing facebook and different social networks to demonstrate screen applicants. (Employers do to boot) So if an applicant has 0.5 nude photos or their facebook website and many wall comments employing profanity and only user-friendly vulgarity.......which will actual be a strike against applicants who're attempting to get into very selective classes the place those universities are targeted on provider to community and representing their college in a effective easy.
