The reason Goldfish die so soon is because uneducated pet owners keep their Goldfish in tiny, unfiltered bowls. People don't realize that the Common Goldfish should reach more than 1.5 feet and live for more than 20 years. They are POND fish, and keeping them in bowls, or tanks less than 150 gallons is simply cruel. In small spaces, they aren't permitted to grow, so their organs bunch, pinch, and fail, their bones become deformed (like their organs), and they eventually suffer a miserable death.

I don't think thats true. I have had goldfish for a long time. They can live almost 10 years if you treat them well. The reason they die quickly is mainly due to poor handling.

No, that's not true. It's because people put them in bowls, where they don't get the oxygen a filter adds to the water thatt ehy need to breath, and also because people don't care that tehy purchase babies that grow to a foot long, and they cram them in tiny aquariums way too small so they are poisoned by their own waste.

you should be able to keep them alive for years if you are careful with them and keep the tank large enough for all the fish you have.

many people put too many fish in the tank for the size of the tank.
