i picked up a toshiba satellite 4010cdt and am going to load windows 98
however i was muckin around in dos and then the battery died. when i connected to mains any command like power or help doesnt work and says bad command or file name.


is this fixable or can i still install 98?

I can't tell you how DOS would work after that. You can try using the EXIT command or when your computer turnes on and DOS starts, press the Ctrl+Alt+Del keys to restart your computer normally.

But I can tell you that you should still be able to install windows 98, depending on weather DOS is set to come up before checking the floppy and CD drives.

DOS rarely had any software-based power management utilities, Win 98 would just installs fine.
