with the scare of recalls...do they make lead detectors for toys and where would i find one

Try a hardware store and tell them what your looking for they maybe able to help you.Or maybe put you in touch with some one who can help you.

Superman could tell you with a glance, but he's not real.
Best thing is to look at the label and see if the toy is made in China; otherwise, you would have to scrape off a bit of paint and have it analyzed - not cost effective. I don't believe there is an easy, affordable detector.

I see from the above that I may be wrong (not the first time), so I'll look on eBay as suggested to check this out.
Might be easier to check out the manufacturer of the toys bought for the kids and see where they are made.

There are two models I see on eBay. One is $1500 and works by spectrum analysis - if you can get it to work.
There is one listed at $99, but it isn't clear to me how it works.
Maybe the parenting magazine suggestion above would help. Good Luck.

try looking in ads in thr back of parenting magazines,I have seen ads for kits that detect lead.
