"Politics" means discovering where the power is and getting as close to it as possible without getting caught doing anything wrong.
It means that they are talking about doing something to make the other guy look bad and themselves look good instead of doing things because they are the right thing to do, and not doing things because they are the wrong thing to do. Doing the right thing is not good politics.

Politics affect every person because the leaders and government implements the laws that govern the activities in the society.

on rare occasion they actually talk abut things that can make a difference...
sometimes people get confused about when "they are talking about things that can make a difference" and when they are just "talking politics"...
so that's probably why people say "oh, it's just politics"... meaning what they are saying isn't really anything other than partisan bickering...
