As October 1st, we don't have to get tested.

The 2007 Montana Legislature passed Senate Bill 132 which changed that out-dated state law. The new law allows women to choose whether to get the blood test. Under the old law, a couple could get a marriage license only if a doctor certified that the woman had been tested for rubella immunity or was exempt from testing on medical grounds.

Everyone should ...to demonstrate a positive rubella titer... proving they have immunity and will not get & pass the virus on to a pregnant female.

Rubella can cause horrific birth defects and even neonatal death. Women that are of childbearing age should have a titer drawn BEFORE they get pregnant. If they are negative or have a low titer...they should get the vaccine before they decide to get pregnant.

Montana is progressive to push for the testing...there are some states that don't have it.

That is my BEST ANSWER!

Probably for the same reasons they do in New York. To ensure the immunities against the disease to prevent it from being passed to an unborn causing birth defects and/or death of the unborn.

Because state laws vary from state to state. what works for the Montana legislature doesn't necessarily work for the California legislature.
