I got an email the other stating that "cellphones shudnt be charged overnight or near by". In explaining this they showed a man who had his hand being burnt and his cellphone literally blown up. I was wondering if anyone knows if this is really rare, or if it certainly is true that "cellphones shudnt be charged overnight or near by".

I have charged every single cell phone that I own, for about 10 years now overnight without issue. As with any electronic that uses a battery there is always that possibility that a battery could explode. Unfortunately, the nature of the beast. Any plugged in electronic device could be harmful to you, start fires, etc. It's a risk we take for technology.

1) Battery charging circuits limit the current to the battery to prevent overheating or fires. BUT this assumes that the heat has somewhere to dissipate. No, don't put it under your pillow unless you have a death wish.
2) Lithium Ion batteries can explode (violently) if shorted or overheated. They can also explode or overheat (dangerously) if they are defective. Sony and some other vendors recalled a lot of Li batteries due to impurities in the materials. To me, this means that recharging batteries is something that should be done with the right charger and right voltage.

WHen you see those ads and videos of people who got burned by phones/cd layers/ipod/etc...they are always due to a defective battery. electrical devices with a battery are tested for long-term charging before they are sent out. it's a very basic formality. if the test product doesn't work like it's supposed to, they won't make more until they fixed it. simple as that.

I've operated so many phones (this year along haha), and have always left them plugged into the chager overnight and i jus wake up and unplug it when i'm going out. when i'm at home, i tend to leave it plugged in (sometimes its for like 5hours a day, thats AFTER it's fully charged).

The dangers of a faulty battery are almost one in a million. I sleep with my phone under my pillow or under my covers while it charges, and i'm happy to say i'm still alive t talk about it. :p

Plug it in, and don't worry.

there used to be a few brand X batteries sold as replacements that were of doubtful safety. If you have a recent phone (less than 3 years) with a genuine manufacturer battery then the risk is minimal.

as long as that's on your place, at room temperature, it is going to be wonderful. no count if that's interior the storage or the temp drops dramatically, it would desire to reason condensdation from the warmth of the battery that would desire to harm inner workings of the telephone. however the charger will supply up charging while the battery is totally charged, if thats what you're asking.
