I would think that economic conservatism is one aspect of libertarianism. But libertarianism also encompasses what might be called social liberalism. That is, on economic issues, libertarians are more likely to be conservative, and on social issues, libertarians are more likely to be liberal.

So, no, they're not the same thing. The one is part of the other -- a big part -- about half.

economic conservatism is part of libertarianism. Libertarianism also includes social issues.

Two simple ways of looking at Libertarianism are:
1. Libertarians are social liberals and economic conservatives.
2. Libertarians are free choice on everything.

Almost. Conservatism (modern) isn't the same as libertarianism.

Most REAL conservatives are in the libertarian party now. Firmly believing in small government and low taxes. Unlike the modern Republican party.

In practical terms they're equivalent. Most middle and upper income conservatives would become Libertarians if the Party had a chance. Poor Republicans tend to be religious extremists who'll stick with their party since Libertarians won't use the govt. to regulate morality. The Libertarian Party is truly run by a group of wealthy families who don't want to pay taxes. This fact ruins them for most people.
Note that some religious extremists are calling Libertarians social liberals, which they are not. Many libertarians may hate abortion, for example, but don't believe it's a matter for govt. to regulate.

Economic conservatism is only half of the equation, though it varies from each libertarian.

Personally, I'm economically conservative but socially CONSTITUTIONAL.

(For the record, Bush is anything but economically conservative. So don't bother trying to compare me to him.)

No, Libertarianism is more about their special concept of freedom from Government control. They like government that supports their success, but they hate Government that supports the general public. I do respect their view on the military and their desire to take care of the home fires before we worry about the other Countries in the world.
Conservatives on the other hand love to hate government spending unless it meets their needs. If it is a tax cut for the whealthy, you can count them in, but otherwise, you can count them to be counting their own money!

What you suspect and argue is largely an identical element as conservatism. maximum individuals of conservatives who understand industry economics and politics are no longer extremists. Nor are maximum individuals of liberals. i'm a conservative-leaning average. i think of we wrongly accuse firms of being grasping while just some great firms are to blame of that. i think of historic previous teaches us that there ought to be some regulation of firms and industries, and maximum conservatives might agree. Destroying someone's objections could be an exciting recommendations-set to talk, yet I doubt in case you alter many minds with this recommendations-set. in case you decide directly to attain advertising your recommendations you will possibly be able to desire to alter minds. maximum conservatives (and a few liberals) agree the present equipment of taxation is inefficient, at cases unjust, and lots too complicated. that's at cases punitive. If we punish success we can stress those firms that choose to stay rewarding to circulate the place they are inspired, no longer punished. fortuitously for the U.S., there are places in our united states the place success is inspired. yet many companies would be pushed offshore if regulation is going previous actual looking, and who advantages while that happens? Oh, I forgot. you probably did. You destroyed their objections. Congratulations.

lassai fair or however you spell it...is the same as economic libertarianism. but libertarianism is usually a social thing. the "Do what thou wilt" ideals of libertarianism overlap the conservative desire for unregulated markets.

Both of those items vary with the person that holds those views...both sound good, but in that they're rigid constructs neither, no matter how defined are flexable enough for a dynamic capitalistic system.

No, conservatives (republicans) are merchantilist. They use the taxing power of government to limit competition and subsidize particular industries at the expense of others.

Libertarians believe in free enterprise and using the taxes to fund the legitimate functions of government not to create winners and losers.
