I'm putting together a youth group video, and we are going to ask people at the mall questions about the current generation and I need to know if we would have totalk to the mall security before carrying out with our idea.

Yes, obviously I would talk to them prior to filming and tell them what I am doing and askthem if they would like to be a participant.

If the security will allow you, that won't t be a problem then. There are people who sometimes are not willing to answer any questions, sometimes they don't want to be bothered. The best people whom you can give an interviews are the ones who are watching or give time to look at you. Body language shows if people are willing to be interviewed.Good Luck!!!

The Mall Staff does not like the customers to be annoyed while shopping. And filming a video on their property requires their permission as it is privately owned and you will have to have the consent, in writting, of ANYBODY in the film before it can be shown. If you put up a sign where people can come voluntarily, that will avoid a lot of complaints from the public. The Mall should already have a written policy on what is required ,you need to approach them before starting. If you are making money off this venture, expect the Mall to want a percentage of the profits. They are trying to run a business and make money.

Best thing to do is phone mall management and ask them if it's okay. Also make sure to ask if they have a policy about videotaping in their mall... The camera is probably the biggest issue. Lots of malls have a strict no-camera policy for "security reasons," whatever that means.
If they don't have a no-camera policy and don't give you permission, you can just try anyways. If they don't allow cameras, however, you'll be stopped pretty quickly.
Also, if people think you're annoying and complain, you can be asked to stop regardless of whether you have permission.

It's a good idea to explain to them what you are doing so there are no incidents. Some people might think you are harassing them. Ask for a security agent to accompany you. Pay them if you must or at least buy the guy a coffee at Starbucks. You could be considered trespassers otherwise and possibly arrested or ejected from the premises.

You should probably talk to them. I got kicked out for filming a high school project at the mall. However, it will make for a much better video if you can get them on film throwing you out.

You should ask someone in the mall office prior to doing so, they will inform security of your presence and you shouldn't have any problems. If I were you I wouldn't just go in and start without letting someone know what you are doing.

Better yet you need to go to human resources department a.k.a customer service and fill out a form I believe to do that type of thing in such a public setting. you are using other people's privacy, you know not to mention with the security issue in America it is best to be use precaution.

Just to be on the safe side I would. Just to make sure that way they won't haul you out of the mall if they didn't want you doing that! I dont know people have their reasons.
