Buffalo Springfield "honorable mention?" YIKES

Actually, the best, and I mean without question, the best band that had "splinters" is The Yardbirds. They had three pretty good guitarists come out of them.

Jimmy Page
Jeff Beck
Eric Clapton

Some of their projects:

Cream
Derrick and the Dominoes
Delaney and Bonnie
Blind Faith
John Mayall and The Bluesbreakers
Plastic Ono Band
Led Zepp
The Honeydrippers
The Firm
The Jeff Beck Group
Beck Bogart and Appice

You can do the math from there!!!

Others:

Grateful Dead>Rat Dog>The Other Ones
Jefferson Airplane>Starsthip>Journey>Hot Tuna
James Gang>The Eagles
Beatles>Plastic Ono>Wings
Primes>The Temptations
Big Brother and the Holding Company>Pearl (Joplin)
Wildweeds>NRBQ
Vanilla Fudge>Cactus
CSNY>Crazy Horse>CPR
Stray Cats>Brian Setzer Orchestra
Buffalo Springfield>Loggins and Messina
Sea Train>Old and in The Way
Tom and Jerry>Simon and Garfunkel
Electric Flag>Buddy Myles Express
Genesis>Mike and the Mechanics
Isley Brothers>Jimi Hendrix Experience
Electric Flag>Fabulous Thunderbirds
The Cyrkle>America
Hall & Oats>G.E. Smith Band
Bob Dylan>The Band
Ten Years After>Mountain

This is kind of fun, actually!

Purple/Sabbath have my 'best' vote.....other honorable mentions include:
From Styx, Night Ranger and Amboy Dukes(Ted Nugent) came Damn Yankees
From Guns N Roses and Stone Temple Pilots came Velvet Revolver

*and, though a little different, I have to throw in Buckingham Nicks turning a good Fleetwood Mac into a Great Fleetwood Mac

The KISS family tree is pretty big....they've had....
Ace Frehley
Peter Criss
Gene Simmons
Paul Stanley
Eric Carr
Eric Singer
Vinnie Vincent
Mark St John
Bruce Kulick
Tommy Thayer
And the list of bands all of these guys have been in over the years is pretty big, except for Gene & Paul.

lots of those bands have been championed via the previous due John Peel, so there is that association. in any different case, the musical types, affiliations and checklist labels lead them to slightly complicated to place all of them under one tree, except you have been only doing a chronological evaluation. The treatment all started interior the mid-previous due Seventies, so as that they are relatively the "granddads" of independent rock popping out of the united kingdom, in case you decide directly to initiate with them. the marriage latest all started interior the mid-Eighteen Eighties. The Stone Roses and happy Mondays have been the two out of Manchester, and have been the two considerable bands of the Madchester scene (which I enjoyed in extreme college). The Smiths are additionally out of Manchester—while they chop up, Andy Rourke went directly to form yet another band with Mani Mounfield of The Stone Roses and Peter Hook from New Order. Johnny Marr went directly to form digital with Bernard Sumner. Elastica is likewise slightly less complicated, because of the fact the lead singer, Justine Frischmann, replaced into first with Brett Anderson (Suede), then she left him for Damon Albarn (Blur). So there's a branch on the tree. some extraordinary indie rock wood might initiate with The Human League—which brought about Heaven 17, Bauhaus—which gave us Tones on Tail, Love and Rockets, Peter Murphy (solo) and Daniel Ash (solo); exhilaration branch—which brought about New Order and digital, and Depeche Mode—which brought about Dave Gahan's solo occupation, and Vince Clarke commencing Yazoo with Alison Moyet and Erasure with Andy Bell. Now those are some wood.
