I will be moving to Las Vegas in the next couple of years, I have heard that either Henderson or Summerlin are the two best towns close to Las Vegas to live in. How far are they from the strip and approx for a 2 bdrm apt or house to rent what are the price ranges. Any information about this would be helpful. THANKS!!!

Henderson.
Just got a new house there and it is great. This is the time to buy. I love it. Also work in LV so it is 13 minutes to drive back and forth to work. Plus I live in a great town and can go visit downtown Las Vegas anytime I want.

You could love it too. There is no problem with Sumerlin. Just too far for me and there's some snob appeal in that town. I like my place better

Summerlin is not a city, it is a master community. There is a difference, b/c Summerlin does not have its own governing body and the post office will not deliver mail to an address of "Summerlin". That being said. . .the only two "cities" near Las Vegas is North Las Vegas and Henderson. I would not recommend North Las Vegas. I used to live in Henderson and enjoyed it. The Galleria mall is near and there are plenty of shops near by. Most of Henderson is off of I95 and 215, which makes travel anywhere easy to access. However. . . .traffic in Vegas sucks, so even if you live near a highway, there is usually an accident, which makes your commute long. I live in the Southwest part of Vegas (Jones and 215). It only takes about 10 minutes to get to the strip or airport. 3 bdrm homes in my neighborhood are renting for $1400 a month (community center and gated). I'm not sure what the apartments rent for. Good luck.

Henderson still feels like Vegas, if you want to get farther, try Parump, small, not much there but safer, more like Vegas 30 years ago. I have lived in the downtown area for over 20 years and like it as I am close to everything and it is more unique. The rents are going up because we have the highest forclosure rate in the nation, hence more rentals needed. The electric bill in the summer is bad so is the water bill if you have a pool. I bought a house as soon as I could when I moved here and is better than renting as you can get a deal on a bank forcosure now.

I'll ditto the earlier comment about Boulder City. I've lived there for 14 years now. It's far enough away from Las Vegas that you don't get the Vegas problems (traffic, gangs, drugs, shootings, yuppies, traffic circles, airplane noise, pollution, crowded schools, etc). However, it's close enough to all of the shopping and entertainment. Housing prices tend to be a bit higher than in the valley, but it's worth paying the premium to have a better quality of life.

Very close to the strip, approx 7 min on a good traffic day. Clean, everything is new. It is one of those master-planned communities. Henderson is a bit far and CROWDED! Summerlain, the same! You will wanna pull your hair out if you have to drive to the strip every single day.

Make sure this is where you wanna live. I have been here for 2 yrs and I HATE IT! THE BIGGEST MISTAKE I HAVE MADE was moving here. If you have a gambling problem, don't do it! You will dig your own grave.

I like the Aliente area. People that research it usually turn the other cheek because it's in North Las Vegas, but it is way north and no it the gross part and not heading there.

They both have good and not so good places. What ever you do, stay away from the area west of the Stratosphere and East of I-15 north to downtown Fremont Street Area.
