It all depends on your budget, school needs, commute etc....
Many nice neighborhoods all over San Antonio, obviously the nicer the more expensive. Go to www.MySanAntonio.com and check out the real estate section. its very helpful

It depends on what you are looking for in a home.

Inside Loop 410 there are some very nice historic areas with mostly restored homes. Also inside the loop is the Downtown and Southtown areas which has a lot of developed and developing Condos and Apartments. The main issue inside Loop 410 for the most part is the schools. There are some in the North East Independent School District and Alamo Heights which are fine, but the others are at best acceptable, and for the most part those in the San Antonio ISD do not perform as well as some of the others.

There are some new housing developments in South San Antonio, but again, the schools are an issue, and the crime rate is an issue also. The East side of San Antonio, has yet to have any major redevelopment or development and the schools in Edgewood are generally poor. Crime has a tendency to be a major issue. The Southern West SIde is seeing some development, but still slow, and the housing market is not as strong, again continued school issues. Tne northwest/northside and Northside ISD is a very strong area. There is a lot of development, there are, however, traffic issues with Bandera Road. I-10 and the area around the medical center and UTSA has nice housing and the schools perform well.

The areas of Castle Hills, Shavano Park and Hollywood Park remain very nice for the most part. The area along 281 and especially around 281/1604 is very strong. The schools are very good as is the North East ISD of which it is part. The area from 1604 north along 281 (Stone Oak/Encino Park and the surrounding areas have grown 866% since 1990) The communities along the I35 corridor north of 1604 are very nice, and growing.

I would recommend looking north unless you want historic or an Urban home. If you want to be inside Loop 410 I would consider possible private or home school possibilities.

North Central / North East / North West - Outside of Loop 410

Don't even consider the south side, west, or east sides.
