Why not? As long as he's of sound mind and body it doesn't matter how old he is. When I'm 75 I don't want people to try and stop me from doing something I love just because of my age.

As long as the coach was still open minded enough to change his style as the philosophy of the game changes, he should be fine. Sometimes older coaches want to stick with their guns when the shouldn't. I think Al Arbour would be alright. If he got an offer, would he coach somewhere besides the Island?

I think the travel and grind of a season would catch up pretty quickly to guy that age. Unlike baseball, these guys don't spend 3-5 days in each city when on the road.
Those 3 cities and 4 flights in 4 days can't be a lot of fun.

I think the travel would take it's toll on a man that age. It's possible to be in very good health at that age, but you need regular habits and a good diet. Dragging your butt all over North America (maybe all the way to St. John's, Saitama or London during the preseason!) would make it tough to be well rested and well fed. The players themselves catch cold all the time from traveling from say...Phoenix to Edmonton.

Sure. Heck he could do a better job than The Great One. Sorry Wayne you were an amazing player, but not as a coach.

Don't kid yourself Mike - the real Jude is still problematic. Which would also explain why I had 12 answers flagged for violations in the last 24 hours plus had my question removed - a leopard rarely changes his spots.

If the person is in good health and has enough knowledge about the sport and about coaching I believe they can coach.
