1. Hot wax - by a board shop or have a friend with the tools help you

2. Decide if you are regular (right foot back) or goofy (left foot back) - which hand goes on top when you cross your arms? Which foot do you catch yourself with when you fall forward?

3. Setup - I like to do this myself so that I know how to change it if it doesn't feel right. For learning, I would suggest 9 to 12 degrees forward in the front, and 3 to 6 degrees in the back and see how you like it.

4. Leash - you need one of these at all times at most resorts. Connect it to your front binding and put a key ring on the laces of your front boot for easy clipping.

5. You can practice putting the board on with gloves and walking around with the board on your front foot before you ever get to the snow.

Good Luck

Its not a bad board for the price, but expect that next year as you progress, you're going to want more. I'm sure the board has little pop or flex, but for starting out, it's definitely a good choice! What size is it? At 153, it's made for the park. At 163, it's a mountain riding board.

You're going to next need bindings. Don't skimp on the costs, cause cheap ones will break and your legs are going to be fudged

You'll also need some snowboard boots, find ones that are comfortable and have no pressure points, so you're feet won't hurt after five minutes. Snug but not tight is the key!

Just go out have some fun this winter with it!

Edit: Yea, take it to a local snowboard shop and have that waxed up a little bit. Let them set it all up for you with bindings too, so they can get the angles suited.

I don't know anything about the board, but you will need to get it a good hot wax to start the season off right. You'll need a stomp pad for ease in getting off the lift, and a leash is a good idea as snowboards have a way of getting away from you sometimes when you're first learning.
