Power can refer to the number of accessories that a car has, as in, power brakes, power windows. Some people say, my car has power everything.
Power is most often meant to describe the engine power. HP means "how much" and torque means "how fast". That is kind of simplistic terms but torque is the twisting ability of the engine, and for acceleration you need a good amount of torque.

Not to me, It depends on the application...However when I think power in motorsports, I think it really has to do with torque. Torque is kinda like the force behind the horsepower...
High speeds are a byproduct of torque...The power hitting the pavement so to say...For example. Diesel Motors, generally, have more torque than horsepower. Dragsters have a ton of horsepower, but torque is what pushes the car down the track...
