I babysit all the time. You need to take her and rock her. If there isn't a rocking chair, then go into a dark, quiet room. Soothe her until she starts dozing off. Then place her in her crib. She will probably whimper, but will soon adjust herself and go to sleep.
You should also give her a pasifier if she has one, be sure she isn't too hot or cold, turn on any night lights that she usually has on, etc. Sometimes waking her up a little and putting her back to bed does the trick. For example, brush her teeth, wash her face, read her a story, and put her to bed. Do her whole bedtime routine over again.
Some parents may not completley agree with my advice, but when you're the babysitter and not the parent, you do what you have to do. If she still won't go to bed, just wait until the parents get home. She may have an ear infection, tummy ache, headache, etc.

I babysit plenty of times and whenever I find myself stuck in a situation with a little one who won't settle I get the baby a bottle of warm milk and sit myself down and cuddle the baby close while gently swaying from side to side, this generally helps the baby to settle, even if for only a few minutes.
Next you need to lie the baby on a blanket or rug (or something comfortable) on the floor on her back if she will lie still enough, gently place one hand on her stomach and pat very gently over and over, in sort of a rhythm, with your other hand gently stroke her forehead, this will be very soothing and will hopefully help the baby to doze off. If this works, leave the baby lying on the floor for about 20 - 30 minutes so that when you move her to her crib, there is less of a chance of her waking up.
If this doesn't work, lie her on her stomach and gently rub her back and same applies as before, leave her long enough to enter a deep sleep before moving her.
If neither of those methods work, try cradling her in your arms and walking quickly around a dark room, bouncing her, rocking her etc. until she is soothed into a sleep, then sit down and hold her close until you think she is in a deep enough sleep not to stir if you placed her in her crib.
Only ONE of you should be in the same room as the baby at a time, as too many people will cause a distraction and she needs silence, other than you soothingly talking to her in a hushed voice or singing.
Good luck, hope this helps =]

Do you have a rocking chair there? If you do turn off all the lights and make sure it is quiet. Rock the baby and try singing songs or humming. Be patient...the baby won't just pass out in 30 seconds. Try rocking with a bottle, holding him/her and swaying. If you can't get the baby to sleep call the parents. Good luck

Probably crying beacuase mom isn't there and things are different. Don't worry about the brother waking up and telling mum because you will also be telling mum and asking for suggestions for what to try next time. Maybe you could ask the brother what mum usually does to stop baby crying, you might get the right answer!!

if you have to, hold her and rock her to sleep - maybe she's got wind? If the parents have got baby rice mix that up with some warmed milk you could be giving her food that she's not used 2 or if she still doesn't calm down try a bath with lavender. Hope this helps!

Stand up craddle her from side to side and softly hum.
Try a bouncer with the vibration on. Do not go on a car ride it's Sat. night and only people partying are out right now.
Try the bottle again or pacifer.]
Run your fingers threw the babys hair or try softly patting the babies back.

One thing you can try is to face the baby away from you so she can't see who is holding her. Walk the house, keep the lights low and try to not get her stimulated. At this point the baby is over-tired and you might not have a lot of success getting her back to sleep, just be prepared.

SIt down in a quite place, make sure she is warm, cuddle her close to you, rock and sing softly. This may not work at first, so you HAVE to be patient.
If all else fails, or you guys feel like you just cant handle it, call the parents.
DONT TAKE HER FOR A DRIVE without a car seat and permission from her parents!!!!!!!!

The baby can be teething, see if she have any teething rings around; they should be in the freezer. if you do not see one, she if the have frozen waffles.Other then that just hold & rock her gentley while talking or singing to her. Oh, she can also have gas. You can try patting her back gently to see if she burps. I hope this is some help to you and your friend, Good Luck.

This will happen with infants. Don't be too worried about the parents they will understand. You most likely can not put the child in the car and drive in around, so I would try vacuuming. It sounds strange but has worked for me with trying to get infants to sleep
