That is humorous! The writer of that question is either trying to make the parents laugh, or he didn't have a clue what he was saying!
That being said, since it is October, your child is right where he or she should be as a first grader!

They need to start somewhere. Some first graders are not as smart as others, so the teachers have to start at the bottom. Asking them in this sort of sentance makes it soung more complicated then what it is and gets them thinking
