Fear.
The Republican propaganda machine effectively induced enough people into voting for Bush out of fear-mongering. Just like the Republicans are trying to do now.
I remember during the Debates how Bush and Cheney were still talking about finding the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Even though they knew it was a lie.
Repeat a lie often enough and eventually people will see it as truth.

What is this "it" you speak of?
The war on terrorism?
The economy?
The shrill whining coming from all your socialist friends?
Americans voted the way they did because the other choice was even worse. We limit ourselves to choosing between two evils every four years so we don't get electoral whiplash like so many European nations do.
Democrats have a terrible record opposing Islamic radicalism, ever since JImmy Carter taught them that giving America the finger is something any left-handed schit wiper drinking expresso with his boyfriends waiting for his explosive vest to come back from the cleaners can get away with.
You'd think that the only political party in history to authorize first use of nuclear weapons against civilian targets would have more balls....but apparently not.
Until the Democrat Party can convince people in general that they are not all about cut-n-run when it comes to foreign policy and security issues....they are going to come up short.
Appeasement just doesn't sit well with many Americans.

First, the United States was in the middle of a war and American voters found it difficult to switch leaders in the midst of it. Second, John Kerry was a very liberal Democratic nominee and many people that supported him found themselves voting against George W. Bush instead of FOR John Kerry. The Bush campaign also did a excellent job portraying John Kerry as wishy washy, or as they called it a "flip-flopper".

Because the dems ran a terrible campaign under Kerry which ignored the Swift Boaters and the republican smear campaign which they thought the American people were smart enough to ignore. That was a monumental mistake -- the American people obviously are not smart enough to get their heads out of tabloid journalism and pointing fingers all while they ignore the issues.
Thus Kerry lost and we got Monkey Man back in for another four years of screwing America.
The mid term elections, Howard Dean, the new chair of the Democrat Party took no prisoners and every smear was met head on with a frontal attack. It worked.
Also, the press is habitually fixated on smear while burying the issues in the story or paper.
Peace

Bush won a second term because he was playing chess while Kerry was playing checkers. It came down to who did you think would keep us safe in our homes, and most people chose Bush. The country has not been attacked since 9/11/01 so he is doing something right.

"Why did Americans Vote George W Bush in for a Second Time?"
Yet another puzzling question: Why did the Germans support Adolf Hitler?

The facts we knew what we had in Bush as a current President while Kerry offered waffling. IE. I was for it, before I was against it. This trying to have it both ways cost him the election and mark my words Hillary's trying to have it all ways and that along with her high negatives will cost the Dems another election.
As far as the "worse thing". Second terms are always harder as the Honey moon is over look at Reagan and Clinton even Nixon and Johnson. You have to accept that things are never gonna seems as good as before.

I can proudly say I was not part of the brain washed group that thought he deserved a second chance...I voted against him...and was very disgusted with the outcome the second time.

Maybe they had high hopes that Bush would do a good job with what he planned to do in the future and it backfired on them.. I wonder how many people thought of Bush after he was voted the second time and felt like crap?? I was smart enough not to vote.. won't and don't care. They just try to make themselves look good.. how sickening!! I wonder if he forgotten all about the promises he made for this country before he was elected for second term?? I think he has no business butting in with the other countries and their problems. He acts like he owns the world- or trying to be one.
