My dad is a great guy. He's a great dad and all my friends and their families love him. He always took time off to help in my school when I was little, he coached my softball teams and was a scout leader for my brother and me. He loves kids and really enjoys helping out. But I can't tell you how many times I've heard people say things like "What's wrong with him? Why does he want to be around kids? It's not natural." Or they just assume that he's some kind of abuser because no "real man" would want to be around kids. Nobody assumes this about women, even when you read about female teachers running away with their twelve year old students. My dad doesn't complain, but I know it hurts him, and it breaks my heart to see. Why are people so mean?

How sad. I wish we had more guys like your dad.

Unfortunately, people are still hung up on traditional gender roles. They still think something's wrong with a man who likes kids or who wants to be a nurse, and with a woman who doesn't want kids, or who wants to be president. I guess we still have a lot of growing up to do as a species.

Are these a**holes who are saying such nasty things about your dad on crack or something??? Do they put Homer Simpson from "The Simpsons" on a pedestal?

I agree with everyone else who says that they're probably just jealous that your dad is doing something worthwhile with his time, by acting as a good mentor figure for kids.

In my opinion, a "real man" is someone who values his family, giving back to the community and helping others, including kids. There is nothing disturbing whatsoever about an adult man innocently coaching a softball team or acting as a scout leader...and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to get a grip on reality and stop being so paranoid. This is not Michael Jackson we're talking about.

Also, if any of these people who badmouth your dad ever try to fabricate some sort of accusation about him, be sure your family finds a good lawyer so you can sue their asses off for slander.

If your friends and their families love him for being around and helping kids the others who say things may be jealous because he is able to take time off to help you in school when you were little and the other things he does. Remember, and perhaps remind him that Walt Disney loved kids also and look what he did with his life. I think many do get bothered by a man who would rather spend time with kids than to hang out in a bar, drinking beer in a bowling alley and other things such as that but but that says more about them than him.

I guess those 'accusing' know nothing about 'a family man'. Bless his heart that he finds time to be a role-model for kids! Your father is like many other fathers - he takes responsibility for bringing children into the world. He understands that being a father is more than 'bringing home a paycheck.' Give him a big hug and thank him as often as you can! And tell those 'busy-bodies' the're just jealous their husbands aren't like your Dad! You know, dear one, if it weren't for fathers like yours, a lot of kids would just be getting in trouble because they'd feel nobody loves them. Hang in there.

Your Dad is special. Kudos to him.I think its because it happens so often and we just cant be too careful anymore.Too many little ones have gotten hurt by perverts. We forget that its natural to care for kids. They are fun .The thing is in order to avoid suspicion of false allegations most men avoid contact with children nowadays and they exspect that most any normal man will avoid the situation as well .Thats why we are losing all our male teachers. Its Sad I dont think they mean to be cruel but they are diffinitly saying what they think inside and they shouldnt.

Yeah, that's a crappy attitude toward men. Sometimes we want to just be silly and goofy and kids understand us.

But we have to be all businessy and go make money. That's all we are, walking wallets.

It's mean, I know. But we men just endure it and don't complain. That's what defines us in this society.

With all the problems going on in life unfortunately, people do not understand that some people genuinely LOVE children. Not for some sick twisted reason :(
