I don't have a Mac, but in general on UNIX based systems you use the "su" command to switch users. This would require knowing the password though. Another option is a "sudo" application that allows you to elevate your permissions without knowing the root password. Of course "sudo" requires that the admin account had already added your account to the "sudoers" file so you could use it.

I wonder if Apple implemented role based access controls similar to what is available in Solaris? Anyone know if they did that? I believe Apple was moving toward using the ZFS from Solaris but I'm not sure if it is this release or just a plan going forward.

you could attempt this: yet right it rather is the main suitable way AND least confusing arising a sparkling Admin on Mac Os X: Here’s a thank you to reset your OS X password without an OS X CD. the working answer for me became to create a sparkling admin you could create new admin like this by deleting a particular report. you could desire to pass into terminal and create a sparkling admin account: a million. Reboot 2. carry apple + s down when you hear the chime. 3. once you get text textile instant enter in those terminal instructions to create a sparkling admin account (hitting return after each and each line): * mount -uw / * rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone * shutdown -h now 4. After rebooting you're able to desire to have a sparkling admin account. once you login because of the fact the recent admin you could merely delete the previous one and you’re solid to pass returned! Apple shops wont reset it for you. computing gadget shops could can charge you $50 to $2 hundred attempting to reinstall the Mac and failing at end.

Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Accounts > your account and if the lock icon is open, put a tick on Allow user to administer this computer.
If you can, ask the administrator to open System Preferences for you.
If you can't and you have the original Install Disks, run an Erase & Install of Mac OS X along with the bundled apps.
If you don't have the Disks, contact Apple to get some.
If you can't get Disks, your out of luck.
