This would only happen with very high dollar items. I would assume $1000 or more.

You would report the fraud to eBay.
eBay would then determine if fraud in fact took place.
If it did occur, the local authorities in the area where the fraud took place would be notified and given all relevant information.
The local authorities would then decide if arrests needed to be made and charges could be filed.

Mail fraud can be a very serious offense!

if you stole the item and sold it, yes.

If you listed an item that wasn't even real and collected money for it, but didn't send anything to the customer, yes.

If you described the item improperly and the customer is pissed at you, no, you won't go to jail.

If the dollar amount in any of the above examples is small (say fifty bucks or something like that) you will not go to jail.
If the dollar amount is below 1000 dollars its a misdemeanor usually.
If the dollar value is above 1000 dollars, it's a felony.

But, if the mail or post office was involved in any way, it's mail fraud, and the federal laws kick in, and you're fuct.

What exactly did you do?

If authorities are called in, and you committed fraud, you can go to jail. Just hope I don't buy anything off you before they ban your account.
