I saw this movie in the early 80s when I was probably 5 or so. The ONLY scene I remember (if I'm even remembering right) was a lady in a bedroom and the hand of a monster (or the fingers) come up through the grates of the heating vent in the floor. I guess the monster/demon was in the basement unknown to the people in the house at that time...good luck! This has driven me nuts for 20 years.....

The only movie I can think of is Cat's Eye. It's made up of 3 short stories and the final one has a little demon/troll thing that comes from the skirting board. Came out in 1985.

Edit: I forgot about Don't Be Afraid of the Dark... Definitely could be that one!

I think I can help you out. It was called "Don't be afraid of the dark" Kim Darby played the lead role, she inherits an old house and there are creatures living in the basement, if memory serves correctly, at the end they pull her down through the heating vent..... it was a scary movie when I saw it many years ago.

OK, this is the closest one I could find using the short part you wrote about.....

The Unseen (1981) with Barbara Bach.

I copied a part of a viewers review..

After he's left, poor Vicki tumbles into bed for a nap but gets yanked out of it real fast (in a really decent, frightening round of action) by something BIG that has apparently crept up through a grille on the floor … The Unseen!
