I promised myself on achieving my MBA in my mid-forties that I would NOT put myself through that again. Learning at that age is far more difficult than when we are young but the wealth of experience and determination we have gained probably outweighs youthful vigour. It was very hard work to claw my way up of an unpromising start in a poor family on a council estate and leaving school with few qualifications but I did it (as did many other people). I worked insanely long hours, studied in my non-working time, paid my taxes and saved what I could. Now, I want to enjoy the benefits of all that effort. To keep my brain active, I would study for pleasure if the pace were comfortable enough but have no intention of jumping through any more hoops or running up debts for tuition fees.

Not likely, I've done my time and earned my retirement . Throughout my working life I was willing to learn and went on courses or in house training to improve my lot. The ultimate insult was being referred to as too old at 50 and overlooked for any further training. Statements like that are not going to gain any votes, no doubt there will be a dramatic U turn in a couple of years time.
