Neither holiday is actually religious. Jesus' Birthday was probably not in December and the bible does not say to celebrate either occasion.

Why not celebrate both? After all, no one in this world doesn't have the authority to tell you what holidays you can/cannot celebrate. I read this article 8 years ago in Seventeen magazine. i don't have the actual article, but this is what I recall:

1.) Research the holiday- Do you know why Channukah is celebrated for 8 days, or what the candy cane symbolizes? Do your homework. Read books, magazines, and ask family members about the meaning of the celebration.

2.) If a song or prayer makes you uncomfortable, just bow your head down or stand silently in a corner. Try not to compare holidays. Remember, everyone is there to have a good time.

3.) Say "no thank you" in regards to food that you cannot eat.

4.) Get involved and have a good time! :)

Even when we still celebrated holidays, So called Christian ones, we had problems, as most of our families are not Christian at all.. It was a problem, cuz to them its just another day to party, and drink, etc, and no mention of GOd. We took the celebratsions seriously and wanted them to be holy and fun and about God. After many ruined holidays, we choose to let it be known that we wouldnt do holidays with them anymore. Our idea of Thansgiving, Christmas and Easter wasnt to be around a bunch of ppl drining and partying with no reference to God . IF we tried to talk about God, pplwere offended So we made it clear, we would see them sometimes on other days, but holidays we would do with ourselves or other Christian friends , and what a good decision. wonderful. Tho in the past few years, as we hve understood just how pagan, Christmas and Easter are, we dont celebrate them anymore. We use those times to talk about what they are supposed to be about, but we dont celebrte any part of them. We celebrate the birth, live death and ressurction of Jesus every single day, and now we see we are leanring more about the true Holy Days that the Jews still keep and they are about keeping GOD at the front of our minds to know and worship. Just starting to learn them, but found if we had all been understanding and knwoing these days, we woud never as a church fallen prey to the pagan days. Even many so caleld Christians celebrate in Halloween today, and its sheer evil.
WE must not allow anyone to come between us and God, so we realized that God was giving us permission to be seperate on those days to not be involved in the unholy ways the others in the family celebrate everything.
We lvoe and forgive them, but we want no part of this type of thing. Using Christmas as another day to just get drunk is awful and we cant be a part of it. We either place God the head of everything, or we dont. WHen we allow family to be above God just to not cause a family squabble, that is wrong. Tho we wont squabble with anyone, no argugin, or debating. WE said how we felt and that is it. All done with holidays and family. Our church family is closer to us and we are of like mind . None of us drink or smoke, or do drugs, and its liek pureness again, holiness, that God calls us to.
WE jst do what GOd calls us to do and it all good. THe Holy Spirit shows us just how to do it. God bless you....
