I live in a small town in Pennsylvania until I was 1.5. Then I moved to a small town in New Jersey and lived there until I was 13. Then I moved to Charleston, South Carolina. I went to college in Winston-Salem, North Carolina at age 18, but would spend the summer with my parents in Charleston. After I graduated at age 22 (May of 2007), I moved to Charlotte and have been here for 4 months.

Without any additional information, what is my hometown?

Also, if you don't think RIGHT NOW my hometown is Charlotte, when will Charlotte become my hometown? I understand this question will be interpreted several different ways, I just wanted everyone's opinion! Thanks!

I think your home town is the town you were born in. Yours is a small town in Pennsylvania

There's no span of time that will make a place your hometown. Your hometown is the place which is most dear to your heart and where you feel you're truly welcomed and proud to live in.

Not everybody has a hometown. I am 21 years old and was born in China, then immigrated to the US and lived in 4 different states, and have lived in Ontario, Canada since I was 13. I will be in Ontario for at least 1 1/2 years to finish university. Yet none of these places is a hometown to me - I don't remember enough of my past, I don't feel like I belong where I am now, and I have an urge to move out when I can in the future.

If you feel after 4 months that Charlotte is the place you can finally call home, then no part of your history can rob Charlotte of its status of being your hometown.

To me, a hometown is where one spends childhood growing up. My mother went into labor on a train ride. I was born in a town I never saw, in a state I never saw. A lot depends on how you feel about it. I recently visited the area where I grew up (age 2-22) and it is definitely my "hometown".

Home is where your heart is. So where do you go for special occasions, holidays etc. If you go see your parents then Charleston is your hometown but if you stay in Charlotte well welcome home.

I think that technically your hometown is where you lived when you were born, but where you call home can be anywhere you want it to be.
