I will explain Laura's attitude toward the dead man, and answer the question asked here - I will not write an character analysis of Laura Sheridan.

"Laura only wanted to get out, to get away. Laura cried loudly, like a child. She asked to be forgiven for keeping her hat on in the presence of a dead body. She quickly left, and found her own way out of the house. She took Laurie's arm and pressed against him. She was crying. She tried to tell her brother that her visit was not awful in any way, instead she said, "It was wonderful." When she tried to add more, she began by saying, "Isn't life -- ..." but her emotions cut her short. Her brother completed her sentence by asking the rhetorical question, "Isn't it (it being life, and not the visit to the dead man's home), dear?"

The people in this story had a much different upbringing than those who Laura sees in the home of the dead man she visits. As a child, she was not allowed to go near those houses. The notice of the death of the driver Scott barely interrupts the garden party, Laura's mother makes sure of that - and the best solution the mother can offer is to send the leftover food as a gift to the grieving family.

The emotions she feels are in contradiction to each other. All her life her mother has referred to poor people as "people like that" and sheltered her children from having any contact with them. She is suddenly given a chance to see inside the houses for herself, and it is a sad, confusing, and uncomfortable time. By the next day, or the next week, surely Laura's mother and brother will have forgotten about the death of the driver Scott, and will be more concerned with their next garden party.

I would submit that if you read it, you'll stand an excellent chance of being able to answer these questions. If you turn in something we have written, that's plagiarism.
