My mother informed me that she has a green and black goo that leaks out of her breasts. She is 42 yrs old and has had 3 kids, the youngest of us is 14 yrs old and she breastfed us all. She said its been like that since the last baby. What could this be? We want to do a little research on it. Haven't been to the dr yet. I don't know why she never said anything to her dr. She didn't say. Got any ideas what it sounds like it could be?

Yes, she says this has been going on for about 13 years. She said she thought that after she quit breastfeeding, her milk just never dried up correctly.

This is not anything to fool around with. Your mom needs to go to the doctor immediately. She's probably scared, so she hasn't gone. But this is not going to get better by itself. Obviously it could be breast cancer...but it could just be some kind of infection that is easily treatable. Either way, make sure she goes in the next few days!

Quite a few years ago I had a cyst deep inside my breast that had dark green goo that leaked out. I was pregnant at the time, but I don't think that made any difference. The doctor didn't know what was wrong. If the cyst had ruptured inside of me it probably would have killed me and my baby. The only thing that made the doctor do anything was because it got sooo big and painful I couldn't move. I was rushed to the ER and they took a scalpel and cut me open and drained it. Then everything was fine. Don't let your mother talk you into just ignoring it, it is easily treatable but can be life threatening if you do nothing. Drag her if necessary to the doctor.

Mammary duct ectasia. Mammary duct ectasia is one of the most common causes of abnormal nipple discharge. One or more of the ducts beneath your nipple becomes inflamed and clogged with a thick, sticky, green or black substance. Most often, mammary duct ectasia affects women in their 40s and 50s. You can relieve some of your symptoms by applying warm compresses to your breast. Taking aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen, may help relieve some symptoms. Also, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics to clear up any infection.
I found this on www.mayoclinic.com search nipple discharge.

That is so not normal. She really needs to tell her doctor. It's also time for her to get a mammogram and maybe that would be a godd time to bring it up to the doctor.
