...Or are they supposed to twist? This is the site I'm using to show me how to make them:

This pattern is not supposed to twist.

You make two different knots often called two halves of one knot.
Remember to make the other one each time.

You can clearly see the different knots.
If you use just one half, your work will spiral, evenly.
But if you tie one half more often than the other, it will spiral a little, unevenly.
If you have put your work down and start again you do not remember which string to tie with, see where the little stripe is on the side, that side needs to go over the center.
If you do it right you will see a new 'stripe' on the other side.

Sometimes people tie a little knot at the end of their work, or use different colours of elastic bands, so they know which string is the one that goes over all the time.

It is also important to tie the knots tight, and all at the same tension.

dn't go to the site but use to make baskets and macrame` and when it would twist i sprayed it down with water. hope it will help good luck
