They appear to lack the courage of their convictions, or they don't believe the things they say -- neither reason is to their favor.

The correct answer is this. They know full well that, contrary to what they claim, 70% of Americans do not want us to just pull our troops out of Iraq. While it may be true that 70% are sick of this war and want it concluded, that is not the same think as quitting before it reaches it's goal. Does anyone really think that there would be any lack of resolve to de-fund the effort if 70% of Americans really wanted that?

I suppose because most of them voted to fund the war in the first place and now they don't want to be perceived as not supporting the troops. Of course I think some of them could care less.

Probably beacuse as has been rightly stated there is an upcoming election. However they would and could not risk the claim that they are not supporting the troops. Lets face it nobody in America wants the shame of a Vietnam style pull-out.

Because despite all their selfrightious rantings, investigations, comforting Islamist, and vilifying the President... they actually realize that the American People *DO NOT* want to loose or surrender this war...Americans like to and want to win so they will not attach themselves to defeatist or those begging for defeat. If it wasn't for the ongoing support of the Drive Bys and their propaganda machine, the Democrats would have long since lost any relevancy at all...

As long as there are troops there, no matter what the situation, the Democratic Pary will support funding. Bush has total control of this war and funding or not, he will keep the troops there. The Democratic Party supports the troops, not Bush's war.

Its not about funding the war, its about funding the troops. Of course, they don't agree with the war, but they aren't going to leave the troops there without proper funding.

I don't know but I am pretty angry about it, but you know, there are also Republicans in congress. Democrats may have a majority but not a large one.

I love some of the answers such as "they lack the courage of their convictions." What a joke. The Democrats voted for the war and the average liberal/Democrat is too stupid to go way back in history (5 years is a long time for them) and read what all the current doom sayers were saying back then. The dichotomy will leave one breathless.

Why? Because there's no difference between democrats and republicans.

apparently you would rather they did not approve the money to Bush then? if they approve it you complain, it they were to reject it you would complain. Now that Bush has changed the shape of nations, if we just pack up and leave a vacuum would suck in something worse....Bush is stupid and leaving a mess the way Bush made it is stupid
