Yahoo has a pretty good finance section. My husband uses it, and has customized it to show what he's most interested in seeing.

Edit - Sorry this is late - yesterday was busy for me. Click on Finance on the menu at the yahoo home page, or go to http://finance.yahoo.com/ The hubby has modified our display over the year or so he's used the site, so you might have to search a bit to get what you want, but the info is there.

You can check things like that on yahoo/finance...just put a symbol in the " quote" box...then off to the left click on "historical prices"
The symbol for the Dow is ^DJI

stockcharts.com - it's free, you put in ticker hit enter, then scroll down to bottom and hit interactive charts, then there's a slider bar which goes back several years and you can enter up to 10 stocks or funds.....dow is $DJIA, S&P is $SPX, nasdaq is $COMP.....I use this all of the time to compare the trends of my investments
